Walker Valley off to strong start at Spring Fling

Runs have been hard to come by for the Feisty Fillies in the four games before arriving in Murfreesboro for their Spring Fling 4A Softball Tournament debut on Wednesday morning, crossing the plate thirteen times in those mentioned four matchups. The pinging sound coming off the bats of the blue and gold, more Ryann Presswood strikeouts, plus a continued mix of consistent defense is creating the recipe for success at the right time. Walker Valley won both of their day one games at Spring Fling with a convincing 8-1 triumph over Page in game one, followed by a 6-3 victory over Rossview in game two.

Walker Valley spread the love around in game one vs. Page, scoring at least one run in each inning with twelve total hits. Amy Benson and Bryan College signee Karly Blackwell went 5 of 10 combined from the batter’s box while UTEP signee Ryann Presswood fanned eight Lady Patriot batters from the circle, setting up a duel with Rossview in game number two later in the afternoon.

Presswood would add 6 strikeouts to her total on the day, striking out 14 total batters and bringing her season total up to 215. Brylie Davis would make the most of her two at-bats in game two, getting two hits and two RBI’s, for number twenty two. Rossview had rallied to cut the Walker Valley lead to 3-2 but in the bottom of the 6th inning, one of Davis’ two hits was a double that accounted for the final two runs in a three run inning for the Feisty Fillies.

“I am just so proud of our entire team”, Walker Valley coach Lauren Limburg said. “Boogs (Presswood) pitched two great games and the defense has been stout behind her. I think the rise in offensive production just shows the girls’ resilience and fight”.

Wednesday’s victories sets Walker Valley up with a matchup against the winner of Rossview and Page, which takes place at 10am eastern, on Thursday at noon with the opportunity to punch their ticket to the championship.

“Last year we were just really excited to be here, but this year we are here to win”, Presswood said when talking about last year’s Spring Fling appearance compared to this year’s. “We know that we don’t want to get ourselves in a hole. Every team here is going to be good and we just have to play our game and be the best we can be”.
