Bucs run past Silverdale to stay undefeated

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Thursday night football, the first high school football game of 2025 in true fall weather, and two region rivals battling on the field. All the ingredients were in place for Silverdale and Boyd Buchanan to create another classic and for the first 24 minutes it looked that way. The Buccaneers went on a 28-0 run that began near the end of the first half and cruised to a 49-28 victory over the Seahawks at David Boyd Field.

Both teams went three and out on their first offensive possessions, but Zach Gilbert got a hand on the Seahawks’ punt and the Buccaneers set up shop at the SBA 30 yard line. David Green would give us a small glimpse of his evening on this drive, first with a 25 yard run down to the 5 yard line. TJ McReynolds would end the short drive with a touchdown run to give Boyd Buchanan an early 7-0 lead with 9:10 to go in the first quarter. Silverdale would put together a drive and answered the Bucs’ score with one of their own on a 2 yard Tate Standefer run to tie it up at 7-7. Green and his crew would back to work on a 79 yard drive. A 36 yard Green run, followed shortly by a 9 yard run, got the Buccaneers down to the 1 yard line. Number 5 in blue and gold rushed in from a yard out to give his team the a 14-7 lead. Seahawks’ signal caller Connor Jenne would complete a strike to Luke Bowman, who raced in from 52 yards out and going into the second quarter, Silverdale and Boyd Buchanan were knotted up at 14-14.
Silverdale was on the move once again and looking for their first lead of the night. Cody Davenport would rip off a 13 yard run to get to midfield, but the drive stalled just outside of the Boyd Buchanan 20 yard line and Jack Mauser pushed a 36 yard field goal attempt wide. The Bucs would drive back down the field, but Bowman hauled in an interception in the endzone to stop the threat. Jenne and the Seahawk offense would cash in on the turnover when he found Cannon Rogers on the far sideline for a 63 yard touchdown strike to give Silverdale the lead 21-14 with 5:22 to go until halftime. Justin McGoy’s 69 yard run on the first play of the next Buccaneers’ drive would even the score up once again. Then, Gary Rankin’s defense would get a turnover of their own when the Bucs recovered a Silverdale fumble at the SBA 46. Green would cover the final 19 yards of the drive for his second score of the half to give his team the lead back at 28-21 with 1:21 left in the first half. The first half ended with Silverdale threatening to close the gap or tie the game again. Davenport had an 18 yard run on 4th and short to move the ball to the Boyd Buchanan 21. Jenne found Tanner Bayne on the final play of the first half, but Green made arguably the biggest play of the game and tackle Bayne at the 3 yard line.
Silverdale punted on the first possession of the second half, with the ball rolling down to the 1 yard line. That didn’t seem to bother the blue and gold clad Buccaneers as they went 99 yards in 10 plays, with the final 3 yards coming on a McReynolds run to push the Boyd Buchanan advantage to 35-21 with 5 minutes left in the third quarter. The Bucs’ defense would hold on fourth down on the next Seahawks’ possession and give the offense the ball back at their 40 yard line going into the 4th quarter.
McGoy’s 22 yard scamper 51 seconds into the final quarter extended the Bucs’ lead to 42-21 with 11:09 left on the clock. Rogers would get loose again on the far sideline on the ensuing drive when Jenne found him on a 67 yard touchdown pass to get Silverdale within 2 possessions, trailing 42-28 with 9:36 left in the game. The game was in hand but Green made sure any door to a comeback was closed when he added his third touchdown of the game with a 4 yard run with 1:31 left to give the Buccaneers’ a 49-28 lead. Green ran for 223 yards and three touchdowns and Bucs had 447 total rushing yards as a team.

Tyner rallies, rams past Silverdale in week 1 thriller

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – It was a festive atmosphere before the game started between Silverdale and Tyner. It was senior night for the Seahawks, the green carpet was laid out so to speak as SBA was debuting a new turf playing surface, and they were hosting the school that is 1.2 miles away from their Bonny Oaks Drive campus. Then the game started, and what a way to start the 2025 season. The third meeting all-time between the Seahawks and the Rams came down to final minute with Tyner, overcoming three turnovers and securing victory within the final minute, for a 28-27 opening night victory on Friday night.
Silverdale would go three and out on their first possession, with Tyner beginning their first offensive possession of the year close to midfield. After getting 8 yards on 1st down, the Seahawk defense stood up and would force a turnover on downs three plays later to give their offense the ball back at the Silverdale 46-yard line. The green and gold combination of quarterback Connor Jenne and receiver Cannon Rogers unlocked the first points of the game when Rogers hauled in a 34-yard pass from Jenne to give Silverdale a 7-0 lead with 7:12 left in the first quarter. Tyner looked to answer on the following possession after D’Aerion McNealy raced into the endzone from 47 yards out, but a penalty on the run wiped the score off the board.
Silverdale defensive back Luke Bowman would step in front of a Tyler Anderson pass for the first turnover of the game. Gerard Allen, trying to get a hand on Bowman after the interception, grabbed the facemask and would get the Seahawks closer as they would setup inside the Rams’ 20-yard line.

Tate Standefer would cap the short drive with a 4-yard run but after the missed extra point, it was 13-0 Silverdale with 9:00 left until halftime. Tyner would answer with a drive that took nearly 6 minutes off the clock with McNealy scoring on a 1-yard run with 3:08 left in the quarter. The ball looked to have come out and recovered in the endzone by the Seahawks, but the officials confirmed it was a score. The Ram Train hauled in an interception of their own and a chance to cut the Silverdale lead even more, but Anderson’s pass on 4th down inside the SBA 10-yard line fell incomplete.
Tyner would turn the ball over on their first two possessions of the second half, the first coming on a Cole Carpenter interception in the endzone. Then Silverdale recovered a Rams’ fumble at the Tyner 33-yard line. Cody Davenport’s 4-yard run would end the drive, extending Silverdale’s lead to 20-6 with 1 minute left in the third quarter.
McNealy would add another 1-yard run to get the Rams back within one score, as the Seahawks lead would be cut to 20-13 with 6:39 left in the game. Silverdale would begin another drive inside Tyner territory at the 45-yard line. Jenne’s 21-yard pass to Davenport would continue the drive and Standefer’s second touchdown run of the game, this time from one-yard 0ut, would make the Seahawks’ advantage 27-13 with 4:18 to go in the game. The Ram Train would not be totally derailed with an answer less than two minutes later when Anderson found Dion Edwards from 27 yards out to cut the Silverdale lead down to 27-20 with 2:25 remaining. Lucas Thomas attempted an onside kick, Tyner recovered it near midfield, and the race to victory was on. Anderson would add a rushing touchdown to the stat sheet on an 11-yard run with 51 seconds to go. Time to go for the extra point and send the game into overtime? Tyner head coach Christian Mainor had other plans as he kept his offense on the field to go for the win on the two-point conversion. Anderson rolled out to the near sideline, regained his footing after a brief stumble, and found Gerard Allen in the endzone as Tyner took the lead 28-27, the first lead of the night for the maroon and gold. Silverdale would have an opportunity on the final play to take the lead back and win the game. Rogers reeled in a deflected Jenne pass at the 10 yard line but was tackled before having an opportunity to pitch it back.

Tyner goes to 1-0 on the season and will stay on the road next Friday as they play at Chattanooga Christian. Silverdale falls to 0-1 and hits the road with a trip to South Pittsburg.
Boyd Buchanan holds off Silverdale, stays unbeaten

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Boyd Buchanan Buccaneers began their region showdown with the Silverdale Seahawks looking like they were going to make it shutout number 3 in 5 games of the 2024 season. After getting out to a 28-0 lead in the second quarter, the flock from Bonny Oaks Drive didn’t quit as they rallied with 22 unanswered points to make it a game before the Bucs pulled away late for a 41-29 victory at David Boyd Field on Friday night.

Silverdale would go three and out to begin the game, and a 6-yard punt would give the boys in blue and gold excellent field position at the SBA 30-yard line. Hicks would complete a pass to Brodie Lowe, who then handed it off to Sabastian Jones, for a quick score on a classic hook and ladder and the Bucs were up 7-0 with 8:07 remaining in the opening quarter. Boyd Buchanan would get the ball back after they sacked Seahawks quarterback Connor Jenne on 3rd and long. Hicks would hit Jayden Moore for a 51-yard completion to get within range for Ethan Lane, but he would miss a 40-yard field goal attempt with less than a minute left in the quarter and the Bucs would take a 7-0 lead into the second quarter.

Boyd Buchanan would score on three 30 plus yard plays to begin the second quarter. Hicks would find Hudson Wamack, who would hit the circle button on a spin move to get free, on a 30-yard touchdown pass and extending the Buccaneer lead to 14-0. Darin Shannon’s 59-yard score on an end around pitch and Moore’s 37-yard score would double the BBS lead to 28-0 with 5:49 to go in the first half. Silverdale would put together a nice drive on the following possession. After a big pickup from Jenne to Cannon Rogers, the Seahawks were in the red zone and looked to have scored on a pass to Tanner Bayne, but his toe was on the backline of the end zone. SBA would go for it on 4th down but Jenne’s pass into the end zone fell incomplete. Silverdale would get their first points soon after when they tackled Bucs back David Green in the end zone for a safety with 3:12 left until halftime to get their first points of the night. After the free kick, the Seahawks would get a huge touchdown with 21 second remaining in the half when Jenne connected with Boone Perry for a 30-yard touchdown, cutting the Boyd Buchanan lead to 28-8 at the half (the 2 point conversion was no good).
Silverdale would keep the momentum going into the second half. The Seahawks would give Jenne and the offense great field position at the BBS 47 when the Bucs went for it on 4th and 1, but would not gain the 1 yard. Jenne would score on a quarterback keeper to cut the Buccaneer lead down to 28-15 with 7:35 left in the third quarter. On the kickoff, Boyd Buchanan was unable to get control of the kick but the Seahawks did as they raced in for the score. And just like that, it was 28-22 Bucs with 7:26 left in the quarter.
David Green and Wamack would end the SBA 22-point streak when Green lined up in the wildcat and found Wamack for a 76-yard touchdown with 9:32 left in the game to give the Bucs a 34-22 lead.
“This is something that we practiced all week”, Green said. “In the past 3 years of running the wildcat, I have never thrown the ball so we knew they would not be expecting it.”
“I just knew David was going to make a good throw and I had to make a play”, said Wamack. The senior would have a breakout game with 141 yards on 6 catches and 2 touchdowns.
Silverdale would answer on the following possession on a Jenne 2-yard run to cut the Buccaneer lead to 34-29 with 6:20 remaining. Jenne would find Perry on a 33-yard pass to get down to the BBS 2-yard line. Green would hammer the final nail in the coffin in this Division II-AA East Region battle with a 19-yard touchdown run with 1:29 left. After Lowe intercepted Jenne soon after, Hicks and the offense were able to run out the clock and go back-to-back against their rival.
Boyd Buchanan moves to 5-0 overall (2-0 region) and will hit the road to take on Chattanooga Christian on 9/27. Silverdale falls to 3-2 overall (2-1 region) and will host Notre Dame on 9/27.

Seahawks get defensive, soar past Chattanooga Christian

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – In a game where the difference in yards of total offense was less than 10 yards between them, it was Silverdale’s ability to take advantage of Chattanooga Christian turnovers that made the slim advantage a big one on the scoreboard. The Seahawks would set the tone early, get help from all 3 phases of the game, and roll to a 28-7 victory over the Chargers Friday night.
SBA punted on their first possession, which did not travel far and gave CCS excellent field position at the Seahawks’ 38-yard line. SBA defensive end Jaxson Carsten would end the drive and threat on 3rd down with his first of 3 first half sacks, forcing a punt. Connor Jenne and the Silverdale would go to work, getting points on the drive when Jenne found Cannon Rogers behind the CCS secondary. That 46-yard connection would give the Seahawks a 7-0 lead with 8:30 left in the first quarter.

The only scoring in the second quarter came off of Carsten’s third sack of the game (and first half) of CCS quarterback Nathan DeLoach, who fumbled the football and was recovered by SBA’s Jack Harris. Tanner Bayne would show off his hops, hauling in a 16-yard touchdown pass from Jenne and Silverdale was up 14-0 with just over 5 minutes remaining in the first half. Chattanooga Christian would mount a drive late in the first half, getting inside the 10-yard line with under a minute remaining. DeLoach’s pass on the final play of the half bounced off of Chargers’ receiver Ezra Duble at the 2-yard line, and intercepted by Garrett Moser goal line to keep the 2-score advantage at halftime
“We talked about brotherhood a lot this week”, Carsten said. “Doing it as a team and you can’t win a game by yourself. It has to be a whole team effort, and I feel like we executed tonight.”

The Seahawks’ first half momentum would continue on the second half kickoff. LD Hollingsworth was unable to get control of the kickoff, but Braden Bowers did for Silverdale at the CCS 16-yard line. Jenne would find Rogers again from 2 yards out to extend the SBA lead to 21-0 with 10:34 left in the third quarter.
“I really have to give a shoutout to my quarterback (Jenne)”, Rogers said. “On the first one, he threw it right where the defender could not get to it. And on the other one, he called the play for me to get into the end zone.”
Both teams would get touchdowns in the fourth quarter, the first coming on a 44-yard Luke Bowman interception return to give Silverdale a 28-0 lead with 7:07 left in the game. DeLoach would score on a 15-yard run for the Chargers’ lone score of the night, which made the SBA lead 28-7 with 3:35 remaining.
“Anytime you can win against a region opponent like CCS, who over the last 5 to 6 years has been really strong in our region, that’s a great thing for your program as you continue to build one”, Silverdale head coach Mike Connor said postgame.
Silverdale has won 3 games in a row, improving to 3-1 overall (2-0 in region play). The Seahawks will take on unbeaten Boyd Buchanan on September 20th at David Boyd Field. Chattanooga Christian falls to 1-3 overall (0-2 region) and will host Knox Webb on September 20th.
